Payment processing fees cover the work of moving a payment from your customer to your business. How fees are structured can vary between providers and programs.

Types of fees you may see

  • Transaction-based fees charged on each payment.
  • Fees set by card networks and issuing banks.
  • Service or account fees from your provider.
  • Equipment or software fees, where applicable.

Reading your statement

Look for how fees are grouped, which charges are per transaction, and which are periodic. If anything is unclear, ask your provider to walk you through it.

Comparing offers

Compare total costs based on your actual sales mix and volume, not just a single rate. Ask about any fees that apply when changing or ending service.
